PTE – Read Aloud – Practice Questions

Published By GrowSkills Pearson PTE Academic ,. engleze.com

This section is part of the reading assessment in the exam. The whole exam is split into reading, writing, speaking and listening. Reading is probably one of the most important skills to master as it will make the rest of your English fluency much stronger.

The PTE Read Aloud question type is the very first type you will face in your exam. On your screen you will see some text and your task is to read that text as accurately as possible. You will get about 30~40 seconds to prepare yourself – rehearse difficult words, become familiar with the text and then another 30~40 seconds to record your response.

When recording, don’t pause for too long as the recording will automatically stop in the exam.
don’t pause for 3 seconds or the system will close the recording .

Best Way to Practice

If you are tackling this for the first time then don’t throw yourself into the deep end and get disheartened. The best way to practice before testing yourself is by doing the following:

  • Read aloud the text provided.
  • Listen to our sample response.
  • Go back and read the text again.
  • Read the text a further three or four times, each time increasing your reading speed.
  • Finally, record yourself reading the text and work on your accent.

Once you have gotten the hang of this practice doing these preparatory steps within the 30-40 second time limit you have for preparation. Focusing on improving your reading skills will make your speaking that much better.

Think about it. When you read you are seeing the right grammar and vocabulary being used and this will in turn strengthen other aspects of your English.

Keep in mind that your answer should come across as confident and fluent with good pronunciation. You will face 6~7 questions of Read Aloud type in your read aloud PTE exam.

Do not worry if you don’t understand every word that you are reading, you do, however, need to portray a general understanding and confidence when you are reading aloud the text in order to get points for oral fluency (ease of communication, the right pronunciation and competently getting ideas across). The words must flow naturally and big words especially should be spoken clearly.

Very Important Note :

  • in Preparation time before the question start in PTE Exam you have 10 seconds , try to skim the text and understand unfamiliar words .
  • keeping on your mind the new words , focus on Pronunciation of this words

  • Is my speech clear?
  • Have I pronounced the words in the text correctly?
  • Did I pause slightly during periods and commas?
  • Do I sound confident?
  • Is my accent clear and controlled?

It is a good idea to have a look at the Keywords section too. These words are especially important to have been pronounced correctly and to have been read without hesitation.

Do you have an English Teacher PTE to send your recordings to? Sending the recordings to a native English speaker and getting their feedback will help you identify areas of improvement. Sometimes we miss the little things or simply don’t realise we have made a mistake when we are learning something new, because it is exactly that, new!

These were PTE real exam questions, so as you can see they are all about rather random topics. We gave you 20 to try and if you successfully read the majority confidently and fluently then there is no doubt you will do well in your real exam as it will only consist of a handful of reading aloud questions.

  • NOTE : Reading aloud other English text such as newspapers, books or flicking through your phone will help you when you are in between revision sessions. So keep practicing!
